The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has urged Governor Ayodele Fayose to declare his assets 10 months after an earlier call on the governor to follow his predecessor, Governor Kayode Fayemi, who publicly declared his assets to the applause of Ekiti people.
Publicity Secretary of the party, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement, said that the call became imperative against the backdrop of earlier calls on Fayose to declare his assets. The governor’s failure to do, he said, has fuelled speculations that state resources were allegedly being channeled towards private enterprises outside the state by the governor.
“The governor must seize the opportunity of declaring his assets to douse speculations of his alleged funneling of the state resources to his private enterprises abroad.
Tasking the governor to act to restore confidence in Ekiti people on
accountable governance, he said open declaration of assets would shame the critics of the governor who always accused the governor of alleged funds diversion to private use.
In a swift reaction, Fayose’s aide, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said the governor would not react to APC’s allegations.
“We won’t react, let them tell us how many APC governors have openly declared their assets. Did you read yesterday’s papers on governors’ position on asset declaration? That is it, tell others.
“APC has 23 governors, how many have openly declared their assets?” he noted.
