MAN SLAPS A COURT JUDGE IN EKITI

The Police in Ekiti State, on Tuesday, dragged a 35-year-old man, Dare Olubobokun, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates' court for allegedly slapping a retired judge.

The prosecutor, Mr. Bankole Olasunkanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on January 15 at about 9:30 a.m. at Awo Road in Igede-Ekiti, headquarters of Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.


Olasunkanmi also alleged that the accused, on the said date, slapped one Justice Agbelusi Abiodun (retired) and also destroyed his cell phone valued at N20,000.
The prosecutor, however, applied for a date of adjournment to enable him study his case file.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Vol. 1, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty as his counsel, Mr. Babatunde Falade, prayed the court to grant bail to his client, with a promise to provide reasonable surety.
Chief Magistrate, Idowu Ayenimo, consequently granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade Level 14 and adjourned to September 4 for further hearing.
